Home is where you know who you are. Because when you’re at home you’re with those who know who you are. They’ve walked through the years with you, they know you, and their love, acceptance, and value of you is a benchmark that roots and anchors you throughout life.
If you don’t have a home like that, God offers you one. God loves with a love that never fails, a love that is steadfast.
In early December I saw this quote from Augustine on Monergism’s Facebook page,
I’ve been thinking about that quote. The Scriptures speak of God’s people as sojourners here on earth. When Hebrews 11 tells us of the faith and lives of some of God’s people, the author says they were strangers and exiles here because they desired a better country, a heavenly one.
I’ve been thinking about these things because at the end of the year numerous plans are always posted for reading through the Bible in the new year. Before I write about those plans, I want you to mull over a couple of verses and think about what it means to travel with the Scriptures in your mind and in your heart. If you’re a Christian, you’re on a pilgrimage to that heavenly country.
Encouragement along the way! To give us hope! What a promise! What a help!
One other verse to think about today.
In the house of my pilgrimage.
In His Word He has given us songs in this present house of our pilgrimage. From here we go to a better country!
God has sent you letters from home!
