Friday’s Bible reading is Lamentations. This short book of only five chapters is a poetic lament over the destruction of the city of Jerusalem and the consequences of God’s devastating judgment on Judah. The words are touchingly beautiful in their melancholy and grief as Judah’s sin and God’s judgment are described.
Read the Bible in 2011 ◊ Week 22: Saturday And He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” Luke 7:50 Saturday’s Bible reading of Luke 7–8, contains one of my favorite stories. In Luke 7:36–50, Jesus is eating at the home of Simon the Pharisee. Their meal is interrupted: “And […]
A cliché often heard by Christians who are in the midst of tragedy is God is in control. This platitude sounds spiritual because, of course, it is true, but what Christian doesn’t believe God is in control? Great plot and sub-plots, great suspense, and, of course, great clothes as Grace Kelly swans around in Edith Head couturier (she even looks chic in what was known at the time as dungarees!). For me the most poignant scene in the movie is when one of Jimmy […]
Read the Bible in 2011 ◊ Week 19: Sunday “For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich.” 2 Corinthians 8:9 In Sunday’s Bible reading of 2 Corinthians 6–8, I noticed several contrasts. […]
Happy Mother’s Day to those of you who are mothers! May God comfort those of you who have lost children. May He strengthen those of you who have children in turmoil. May those of you without children be blessed by those you have mothered in their time of need. And for those of you who […]
In the heading at the top, “My servant Job”, is a page containing my posts on Job. I’ll be adding to it as I write more on the book. There’s a subheading under it titled, Help & Comfort, in which I’ve gathered a list of posts on adversity and suffering in the hope of offering […]
