For I am mindful of the sincere faith within you, which first dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am sure that it is in you as well…In our pastor’s sermon today he spoke on how God uses mothers to disciple their children through the teaching they give their children and through the tender love they show their children. Two familiar passages in Scripture that I’ve quoted on other Mother’s Days focus on our teaching and tenderness.
God has entrusted children to their mothers, and we are called by Him to love them and to teach them to know and love the Lord. Our teaching is bound up in our love for them and our love for the Lord Jesus. By our love we show them again and again the reality of the truths we teach them about God.
By no means are we perfect in our words or actions, however, even in our sins and failures we can speak and show forgiveness, perseverance, and encouragement, our reliance on God’s grace and love, and that God is with us and will guide and keep us in this world.
Enjoy the blessings that your children are, and the blessings that your children give to you.
May the Lord bless you as you are a mother to your children.
May the Lord comfort those of you who have lost children or who are estranged from your children.
May the Lord strengthen those of you who have children in turmoil.
May those of you without children be blessed by those whom you have mothered.
And for those of you who have been forsaken by your own mother:
And the Lord has forgotten me.”
“Can a woman forget her infantAnd have no compassion on the son of her womb?
Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.
Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;
Your walls are continually before Me.”
May the Lord bless you with His love and grace!
